4970 Assignment 11

Due April 6 at 5:30 pm via email

1. Construct three of your slides from your final presentation. These should be substantive slides (i.e., no title slide should be included in this particular assignment). You must be able to email those slides as an attachment. They should be in a pdf or ppt document.

2. Congratulations - you have already written a great deal of material for your final

paper (i.e., an intro; 2 pages describing your field site; a methodology; 2 pages of field study in which you’ve integrated your theories; 1 page of website examination using your theories; and 1 page of video content). As stated a number of times, if you’ve written these pieces correctly and accurately, then you’ve made significant progress toward the final version of your paper.

For assignment 11, in addition to the presentation slides, you should now turn in

between ½ to 1 page of “signposting.” You will recall that this is the area in which you tell the reader what your paper is about by stages (i.e., “First I will talk about…” “Then I turn to a discussion on…”). This section should include multiple steps since you will need to include things like methods and lit reviews in addition to the substantive “results” sections. Furthermore, you should elaborate on each step. That is, you should not simply write: “Second, I will discuss methods. Third, I will discuss my concepts.” Instead, using this example, you should write something along the lines of: “Second, I will address the methods I used to conduct my research,” and then something else like, “Because of the exploratory nature of this research I relied upon content analysis to examine…”

****To get a head start on the final paper: Keep in mind that your final paper should

“hang together.” You should construct the paper as a cohesive whole and NOT a collection of smaller essays. Each component of your paper must address your primary research question. So, you might also begin to think about where you will position all of these separate pieces and how you will integrate them by adding transition pieces that link them all together seamlessly.
