The purpose of assignment is to assess students on the following Learning

Outcomes:

LO 1 Explain key features of network architecture and purpose of network technologies.

LO 2 Analyze physical layer for networking, common protocols and multimedia communications LO 3 Use appropriate network tools and techniques

Assignment Description

Task 1:

Assume that Sam wants to send a video and audio file related to their lecture notes to his friend

Bob who is away from university. Illustrate how a message is transmitted from the Sam’s

network to the Bob’s network in the Internet model of a data communication network.

Illustrate how the bit pattern 10110011 would be sent using

a. Unipolar signaling

b. Return to zero signaling

c. Amplitude Modulation (AM)

d. Frequency Modulation (FM)

e. Phase Modulation (PM) Task 2:

You are a network engineer and asked to connect 5 departments such as Language,

science, humanities, English and Math in a reputed school. How will you connect those

departments to exchange smooth flow of information between them? List out the

networking tools and protocols required to establish the connectivity between them.

Analyze and write a report by analyzing and describing the network requirement for the

above and demonstrate switch and router configuration.

Submission Guidelines:

The report should have a consistent, professional, and well-organized appearance.

1. This assessment item requires you to work individually.

2. The word limit of the report is 1000 words.

3. Your report should include the following:

➢ The cover page must have member details, including student names and the ID

numbers, course details, and the assignment details.

➢ The assignment must use 12-point font size and at least single line spacing with

appropriate section headings.

4. The report must be submitted in soft (electronic) copy as a Microsoft Word document on the

LMS in Turnitin Dropbox. Assignments submitted on the LMS will only be accepted.

5. Late penalty applies on late submission, 1% per day would be deducted.

6. The assignments will go through Turnitin and plagiarism penalty will be applied.
