Place the title of the paper on the first line. Tab to the .5-inch mark to begin your

introductory paragraph. To develop an introduction, begin with some interesting facts about the

topic and then narrow the focus to the specific topics for discussion. This could include an

overview of the company. An overview could include, but not limited to the products or services

the company offers, the company size, customers, and the countries in which the company

operates. Include relevant information about the CEO. Include in-text citations to support the

information you present in the paper. An example of an in-text citation that you place at the end

of the information you paraphrased is (Boone, 2012). The introduction should include a thesis

statement and succinctly describe the order in which you organize the body of the paper. Please

provide in-text citations for the information you provide.

Elements of Starbucks’ Organizational Culture

Chapter 3 provides a discussion on different types of organizational cultures. Clearly

discuss the organizational culture for this company. Be sure to identify the specific type of

organizational culture. Provide in-text citations for the information presented in the paper.

Another approach to using in-text citation is to include the citation at the beginning of the

sentence as follows: According to Boone (2012), then present the information. Please note the

above heading is bold and the major words begin with capital letters.

Suggest some key elements of the company’s organizational culture that contribute to its

success in a global economy. Review the elements discussed at the two levels of a corporate

culture shown in Exhibit 3.6. Clearly link those key elements to the global success of the

company.

STARBUCKS’ STRATEGY 3

Consider Exhibit 4.4: Key factors in the International Environment, in making the link.

Provide in-text citations for the information presented in the paper. If there are two authors for

the source you are using, an example of the in-text citation that comes at the end of the

information you paraphrased is as follows: (Boone & Kurtz 2012).

Suggest as many key elements of the company’s organizational culture you believe

contribute to its success in a global economy. Clearly discuss the ways in which each element

contributes to the success.

Management’s Role in the Organizational Culture

Indicate the management role with creating and sustaining the organizational culture.

Exhibit 1.7 lists ten managerial roles and activities involve in management. Clearly link activities

within the management’s role to relevant aspects of creating and sustaining the organizational

culture. Provide in-text citations for the information presented in the paper. If there are two

authors for the source and the citation is at the beginning of the sentence, use the word “and”

between the names of the authors as follows: According to Boone and Kurtz (2012), then the

information would follow.

Provide in-text citations for the information presented in the paper. In some cases, you

will find at least two sources to support the information you provide. In those cases, an example

of an in-text citation that you place at the end of the information is as follows: (McLean, 2005;

Draft, 2012). Note that a semicolon separates each source.

Management Decisions in Innovative Offerings

Assess the effectiveness of Starbucks’ management decisions in providing innovative

offerings (e.g., WiFi, style of coffee, etc.) for its customers in order to achieve its current

competitive marketplace advantage. Discuss what competitive advantage is and link the

management decisions regarding the innovative offering to the company’s current competitive

marketplace advantage. Provide support for your rationale. Provide in-text citations for the

information presented in the paper. In the cases where there are at least two sources to support

the information, an example of the citation at the beginning of the sentence is shown in the

following sentence. According to McLean (2005) and Draft (2012), then the information would

follow. Please note the above heading is bold and the major words begin with capital letters.

Key Management Competency

Determine one (1) key management competency that a successful manager at Starbucks

is likely to have. Chapter 1 discusses some management competencies and Exhibit 1.9 provides

a list of management competencies for managing the old and new workplace.

Provide in-text citations for the information presented in the paper. If there are three or

more authors for the same source, and the in-text citation is at the end of the information you

paraphrased, include all authors in the citation the first time you cite the source as follows:

(Boone, Kurtz, & Draft, 2012). The next time you cite the source in the paper, use the name of

the first author only and then et al., in the citation as follows (Boone et al., 2012).

Indicate one (1) way in which the particular competency is a good fit for the

organizational culture. Be sure to align your rationale for the organizational culture fit with

characteristics of the organizational culture you identified for the organization. Include in-text

citations to support your information. If there are three or more authors for the same source, and

the in-text citation is at the beginning of sentence, include all authors in the first citation as

follows: Boone, Kurtz, and Draft, (2012). Use the name of the first author and then et al., in

subsequent citations as follows: Boone et al., (2012). If you use a direct quote, put the quote in

quotation marks. Include the page number or paragraph number if there is no page number,

STARBUCKS’ STRATEGY 5

as shown in this example (McLean, 2005, p. 45). Use “pp” for quote taken from two or more

pages and use para for paragraph.

Evaluation of Starbucks’ Ability for Long-Term Sustainability

Evaluate Starbucks’ ability to achieve long-term sustainability as a global leader in the

coffee industry without the organization’s CEO, Howard Shultz. Support the evaluation with

sound research. Keep in mind also, if you include a direct quote of more than 40 words, it must

be in block form. An example of block form is as follows.

McLean (2005) suggests that:

Start the quote on a new line. Note that quotation marks are not used in this case. Indent

the entire quote on the left hand side. The information in the block form should retain the

double-space formatting as shown. Indicate the page number after the punctuation mark.

No additional punctuation mark should follow the page number. (p. 45)

Conclusion

End your paper with a conclusion. After the conclusion, insert a page break and begin

your references on a separate page. The sources listed in your reference page should have a

hanging indentation and should be double-spaced. For information on listing your sources,

please refer to the APA guidelines. Some examples are shown on the sample reference page

below. Please note which information you should italicize and which letters you should

capitalize.
