Write an essay on any one of the following topics. You are expected to demonstrate evidence of wide research.
a) Value Chain Analysis:
Critically analyse the value-chain model of Michael Porter (1985). Discuss the model’s suitability, potential and whether its limitations have been addressed in any new framework. The discussion should be in the context of firm’s competitiveness.
b) Product Development Decisions:
Critically discuss the implications of the internet for collaboration with customers on product decisions. Support your arguments with the help of relevant theory and examples.
c) Internationalisation Theories
Critically discuss how the three traditional theories of internationalisation may not be suitable in the Internet Age. Suggest a well-researched and well-argued recommendation.
Following structure to be followed:
Introduction/Background of the topic: Start with the background, including a definition or a quote. Also indicate how the essay is structured. For e.g. In this essay, the theory of Porter’s five forces is analysed for an airline industry. Main focus is on the limitations of the theory and whether it is applicable for most industries including services or just product for e.g. manufacturing of aircrafts.
Main Body – Establish the key argument and discuss the relevant and recent theories. Discuss the pros and cons of the argument or theory in an objective manner. Afterdiscussing the two sides, establish your own argument as your own analysis. Support your answer through secondary research and relevant examples.
Conclusion – Summarise the entire essay in a paragraphs without adding anything new. If you have any recommendations, include that in the main body.
Note: Each paragraph should have at least two citations. Only follow Harvard System of Referencing which has in-text citations as (Author’s or authors’ last name, year of publication). Quotes to be put in inverted commas and author, year and page number to be included.
All references should be credible. They can include online sources but online can’t be the only source. Should have a combination of books, journal articles, websites and online articles. Any source that you think is or sounds like a blog or meant for students, then avoid them. A good source is the one which is peer reviewed.
