Gimpshop homework

You do not need to use Gimp for this assignment. If you have access to some other graphic editing program (such as Photoshop), that is fine.

(See Sample illustrating what I am looking for)

Note you need to hand in a zip file that contains all the files for your web page including all the images.

I am also asking for a Word document.

1) Create a new, simple webpage and make the background some color other than white. (My sample below uses a lavender background.) (10 pts)

2) Put your name on the page in a H1 tag. (10 pts)

3) Create four H2 headings with the following text (note, I did mine in a 2 x 2 table, this is ok, but not required) (10 pts)

a. Original Picture

b. Transparent Individual that you modified

c. Original Group Picture

d. Inserted Individual into Picture

4) Locate a picture with a person in it. It can be of you or someone else.

a. Make sure the image size is optimized for the web. You can use http://www.webresizer.com for this. Take a screen shot showing the original picture and the optimized picture on WebResizer and paste this into a word document. (5 pts)

b. Paste the optimized picture into the web page under the Original Picture heading. This is so I can see the edits you make in the next task below. (10 pts)

5) Crop and remove all the background from around the person. Note, these are two separate things!

a. By Crop I mean cut away some of the picture leaving only the image of the person.

b. Now Remove all the background. Make the background Transparent. This means remove everything that is not the person in the picture. You NEED to do something to make the image transparent, so when you insert it into the web page the colored background shows through. (Don’t just make the background of the image the same color as the webpage)

c. You have to save this picture in the appropriate file format to get the transparency. Make sure to use a file format appropriate for a photograph, and not a small graphic.

d. Paste this modified picture under the Transparent Individual heading. (15 pts) NOTE: If done correctly, the background will not be White – it will be the background color you set for the page. (see my example below)

6) Locate a group picture with a bunch of people.

a. Make sure the image size is optimized for the web. You can use http://www.webresizer.com for this. Take a screen shot showing the original picture and the optimized picture on WebResizer and paste this into a word document. (5 pts)

b. Past it under the Original Group Picture heading (10 pts)

7) Insert the picture of the individual from part 5 above into the group picture.

a. Up to 5 Points will be deducted if the picture does not look somewhat natural. (it does not need to be perfect.)

b. It is important to make sure that some of the original picture is both in front of and behind the inserted picture (i.e., there should be layers, and you need to take advantage of the layers).

c. Don’t just paste the picture of the person on top of the group picture – they need to be integrated together (20 pts).

8) In your Word document

a. Include your name at the top of the page (5 pts)

b. Include the two screen shots from Webresizer.com

c. Include screen shots showing your web page with your 4 pictures. Make sure all 4 pictures are shown

d. Zip up your web page and submit that with your word document. Don’t forget to include the pictures.
