Assignment 1: Developing Your Research Question, Model, and Hypothesis

Research Question

How does enforcing remote work policies within the public administration impact employee productivity and job contentment?

Modeling

The proposed model focuses on remote work policies as an independent variable that influences two dependent variables: employee productivity and job satisfaction. It also predicts that since remote-working competent policies of flexible hours and the provision of relevant tools during work improve life balance, it can promote productivity (Rassel et al., 2016). The model also postulates that in addition to job satisfaction, employees had higher levels of engagement in the workplace because they felt trusted and valued (Frankfort-Nachmias & Leon-Guerrero, 2019). A diagrammatic representation may consist of a flowchart showing the relationship between these variables.

Hypothesis

The best practices for teleworking among PA employees will improve their productivity and satisfaction. The premise of this hypothesis is that the more robust remote working policies in organizations are, the higher the productivity of the personnel and job satisfaction are due to flexibility and resource availability. Further, with people working from home, there will be no additional long distances to be traveled, and thus, stress levels are expected to decrease, encouraging the effectiveness of good productivity. Another advantage of such a schedule is that it may foster employees’ independence, increase organizational morale, and positively affect employee turnover. Finally, this relationship would be helpful to public administration organizations that are interested in staff health and organizational performance.

In the present undertaking, I have constructed a unique and narrow research question grounded on an essential topic of concern in public administration. The descriptive model identifies variables that could interest the study and their possible inter-connectedness, and the hypothesis gives a statement that can be used to test a theory. This groundwork will help create the last research paper proposal and support the precise portrayal of the effects of remote work policies in the public sector.
