CAN401 - Cloud Computing

Assignment 1 Requirement

This assignment is worth 10% of the total mark for CAN401.

The deadline for submission of Assignment 1 is Oct 31th, Friday. You are required to write a research survey report with single-column 1 page(minimum), including your investigation (reading references) and proposal of new idea aimed to your research topic/problem. You may select the following topics, edge/fog computing, blockchain, Cloud-based AI and so on. No matter what topic you choose, it should be relevant to the cloud computing.

It is recommended to cover the following aspects for the survey report.

1. Title

It should be concise and descriptive.

2. Abstract

It is a brief summary of whole survey report. It may include the research topic, the rationale for the study, the hypothesis (if any), the method and the main findings. Descriptions of the method may include the design, procedures, the sample and any instruments that will be used.

3. Introduction

The main purpose of the introduction is to provide the necessary background or context for your research topic. Generally, the introduction section should cover the following aspects.

(1) State the research topic;

(2) Provide the context and set the stage for your research;

(3) Present the rationale of your proposed study and clearly indicate why it is worth doing, if any;

(4) Briefly describe the major issues to be addressed by your research, if any;

(5) Identify the key independent and dependent variables of your experiment, if

any;

(6) State your hypothesis or theory, if any;

(7) Set the delimitation or boundaries of your research topic in order to provide a clear focus;

(8) Provide definitions of key concepts, if any;

4. Literature Review

You may focus on several points.

(1) Ensures that you are not "reinventing the wheel";

(2) Give credits to those who have laid the groundwork for your research;

(3) Demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the research issues related to your research topic;

(4) Synthesize the existing literature;

(5) Provide new insights or develop a new model as the conceptual framework for your research;

(6) Convince your reader that your research will make a contribution.

5. Method

It describes how you plan to tackle the research question. Contain sufficient information for the reader to determine whether methodology is sound.

6. Results

You do not need to present the results at this stage. However, you need to have some idea about what experiment will be conducted, what kind of data will be collected, or what statistical procedures will be used in order to answer your research question or test your research idea.

7. Discussion

Conclude your research survey report and show how the potential impact of your research idea. Mention the limitations and weaknesses of your work and future work.

Submission

On the date of submission, each candidate should submit the report with presenting the full name and ID as file name, eg. 2114741_MeixunQu.pdf. (File format: PDF)
