STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES 2

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES

Strengths

Life experiences, feedbacks from colleagues and a set of personal beliefs form the basis upon which strengths were evaluated. First, it was found that problem solving skill is a skill that has been nurtured hence applicable in various social setting. As a student there are numerous problems and challenges that one will face especially when relating with colleagues. For instance, during group work, it is likely for conflict to rise as a result of poor working relations among colleagues (Gell, 2014). In such a case, problem solving skills need to be applied in creating a win-win situation where each party will be made to feel positive.

Second, cultural competence has also been found to be a strength. It entails the ability of relating with other individuals in a manner which does not judge their cultural and ethnic backgrounds (Gell, 2014). Being brought up in a culturally diverse neighborhood has equipped one with cultural competence that is applicable at the institution. One will be able to build effective relationships with colleagues and instructors. Finally, having inborn leadership skills has also been established as a strength that will apply in various situations during learning. For instance, when attending to team’s responsibility, it is important that a team leader guides the team in a manner which will realize timely attainment of goals (Gell, 2014). As a leader, one take up the responsibility of a leader and put together a team that will be effective in meeting goals and objectives. On the other hand, leadership skills can be applied in taking up leadership roles in associations that will positively impact one’s career.

Weaknesses

A major weakness one suffers from entails poor time management skills. In the 21st century, one must be a good time planner so that all responsibilities can be allocated sufficient time. More so, one needs to prioritize matters so as to avoid being a liability when working with teams. Being a good time manager enables one to avoid spending too much time on a specific task hence failing to timely complete other waiting tasks.

An additional weakness entails striking a balance between school work and life. There are numerous instances where one is only focusing on school work hence failure to meet other responsibilities such as spending enough time in establishing relationships with other members of the society. Striking a balance between the two factors is highly important when one is pursuing career as it helps build a more successful one. On the other hand, an additional weakness entails inability to consult widely before making a decision. In most cases, it is common for one to make the final decision without properly putting into considerations inputs from other parties that may be impacted by the decision made. There is a need for one to be more democratic and accommodative so as to avoid making decisions that may be one-sided and inefficient. Further, when a leader fails to take inputs of other people into consideration, it is likely for one to demotivate them hence poor performance from the team (Gell, 2014). Essentially, one needs to adopt a democratic leadership style.
