Peer Reviewing Essay #3 Outlines
Goal The purpose of this assignment is to allow you to give and receive feedback on your Essay #3 thesis statement, topic sentences, and evidence as they appear in your outline draft. After you receive feedback from a couple of your peers, you will be able to use that feedback to help guide you as you revise your paper and prepare to turn in your 3-page rough draft on Tuesday, 11/10.
Post Post your thesis statement, at least 3 topic sentences, and at least one piece of evidence you're planning to include for EACH topic sentence to this discussion board by Thursday, 11/5, by 11:59pm. Your post should include your thesis statement, at least 3 topic sentences, and at least one piece of evidence for EACH topic sentence.
Reply to Peers Then, due by Saturday, 11/7, by 11:59pm, read and give constructive feedback to at least 2 of your peers' posts. Use the pages we've gone over in earlier modules about thesis statements and crafting argumentative topic sentences to guide your feedback. Make sure you make at least one comment about the person's thesis AND at least one comment about at least one of the topic sentences for each of your replies. In order to help everyone get feedback, respond first to posts that don't have feedback yet before replying to a post that someone else has already responded to.
Remember: When you are giving feedback, aim to be as specific as possible in your suggestions and/or questions. I recommend giving feedback about some of the following:
Is the thesis opinionated and does the person have a clear argument? Does the thesis clearly respond to the question from the prompt? Do the topic sentences clearly tie back to the thesis? Do all of them? Does each piece of evidence seem appropriate and helpful for proving the topic sentence it goes with? If you can think of stronger evidence from the text to support the person's topic sentence, feel free to offer that to them. If you are having a hard time thinking of what feedback to give, you can help your peer by "playing back" to them what you are taking away from their writing. Paraphrasing what you

think their thesis and topic sentences are in your own words will be helpful, as this allows the writer to check that their writing is conveying what they intended it to.
