GEO 3113 – Creative Project ASSIGNMENT – WORLD HERITAGE SITE The purpose of the world heritage site assignment is to allow you to “explore” a particular site in your focus region that has cultural/environmental value to humanity. You will choose one UNESCO world heritage site within your focus region creative project as outlined below.
Instructions
1. Choose one site from the UNESCO world heritage site list in your region. The list can be found online at: http://whc.unesco.org/en/list. UNESCO world heritage sites are identified as natural, cultural, or mixed natural/cultural. You are free to choose any of the sites that are located in your focus region. However, for the purposes of this assignment, it is best to choose a mixed natural/cultural site. Each option must include at least two other sources other than the UNESCO site.
2. Develop a trifold or duo fold brochure or full-page flyer that has information front and back
(essentially covering 2 full pages). You should be creative in terms of layout, but the project must include the following elements:
ü At least 3 images featuring various aspects of the heritage site. ü An introductory paragraph that contains a description/significance statement about your
selected site. ü Using a mixture of lists and paragraphs, descriptions of the cultural or natural features of
the site next to a picture(s) illustrating what you are describing. ü A paragraph that describes the relationship between the physical features of the site and
the societies to which the site belongs. ü Throughout the project, “sell” the site to a potential visitor by emphasizing its
contemporary/historical significance.
3. Your project should be formatted as follows:
ü Your name, current date, and name of site must appear somewhere on your project. ü No rules for project formatting; be creative! ü I prefer that you submit your assignments as a PDF document, however, you may submit a MS
Word file. All other formats (i.e. Adobe Illustrator, iWork Pages) must be converted to a PDF before submission.
ü A list of sources used in Turabian or APA style used on a separate page.
