Annotated Bibliography and Outline – Leadership Behavior

Synthesis is the process of creating a new idea by analyzing multiple disparate concepts or notions to discern the common thematic or connecting principles among them. Synthesis of research is a process learned through time and practice. In this assignment, you will engage in the first parts of the synthesis process: annotating and outlining.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

· Review the journal articles assigned in the modules 4 and 5 of this course.

· Refer to "Empirical Research Checklist" located in the topic materials for this module to guide your selection of an empirical article.

· This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

· Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.

· Refer to the resource, "Preparing Annotated Bibliographies," located in the Student Success Center, for additional guidance on completing this assignment in the appropriate style.

·  You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical Support articles for assistance.

Directions:

Provide an annotated bibliography (750-1,000 words total) of two of the assigned journal articles from modules 4 and 5 of this course  and  one additional topically-related, empirical article of your choosing. Include the following for each article:

1. The article citation and persistent link. These are not included in the total word count. Be sure to verify the accuracy of the reference formatting as these can change during the insertion process.

2. A written summary of the key concept(s) of the article. Why was the study done? What was the population studied? What did the researcher(s) conclude? What other information about this study do you believe is unique or important to recall? Are there specific statements made by the author that you wish to retain?

Construct an outline for a paper that will explain and synthesize the articles you read for this assignment with at least two additional, topically-related, empirical articles that you will select. The paper will require identification of themes common to all of the articles as well as a statement of the conclusions that can be drawn when the articles are taken together as a single entity. You will be writing the paper in the next assignment.

Synthesis Paper – Leadership Behavior

1. Synthesis is the act of creating something new from multiple existing entities. Synthesis of research is creating a new idea from existing ideas. It is a process developed through time and practice. In this assignment, you will apply the synthesis process to the course journal readings and your selected readings. As you synthesize, consider how leadership behavior influences leadership results. For example, leadership behaviors such as speech and mannerisms as well as what is not said or done effect followers profoundly in both their sense of value and their motivation.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

· Refer to the annotated bibliography and outline you created in the Module 5 assignment along with the assignment feedback from your instructor.

· Locate at least two additional, topically-related, empirical articles. Use "Empirical Research Checklist" to guide your selection.

· This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

· Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.

·  You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical Support articles for assistance.

Directions:

Locate the annotated bibliography and outline you created in the Module 5 assignment. Using the outline you developed, the information from the annotated bibliography, and the feedback provided by your instructor, write a paper (2,000-2,250 words) that synthesizes all three articles from the Module 5 annotated bibliography with the two (or more) topically-related, empirical articles you selected. Do that by including the following:

1. A statement of at least three common themes addressed in all of the articles.

2. A statement of the conclusions that can be drawn when the articles are taken together as a single entity. What is the overall message of the group of articles? Focus specifically on how leadership behavior influences leadership results. How might identity, worldview, and socio-cultural group membership influence the behaviors that effective leaders exhibit?

Literature Review Resources

3. Successful completion of a doctoral dissertation requires significant amounts of independent reading on the research topic. This allows the doctoral learner/researcher to become familiar with the scope of the topic and to identify gaps or tensions within the existing literature on the topic. These gaps and tensions become the source of the dissertation research. In this assignment, you will read and annotate potential sources in your dissertation field of interest. Those demonstrating the most merit to the best of your understanding of the topic at this time should be added to your RefWorks list for potential inclusion in the literature review section of your dissertation.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

· Locate the assignment submission for "Literature Review Resources" from RES-811. You will add to this document to begin building a running literature review.

· It is recommended that you engage in this activity throughout the duration of this course.

· Instructors will be scoring your submission based on the number of unique sources identified in the list submitted.

· Download the resource “Literature Review Resources Tool” (if needed) and use it to complete the assignment.

· Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.

· Refer to "Preparing Annotated Bibliographies," located in the Student Success Center, for additional guidance on completing this assignment in the appropriate style.

· You are not required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite.

Directions:

Read at least 10 empirical articles in your general dissertation field that you have not read previously.

In the "Literature Review Resources" document that you submitted in RES-811, provide the following for each source that you are adding to the document:

1. The APA-formatted citation.

2. A brief annotation of the key points of the source.

3. An indication of whether the source has been added to (Y) or excluded from (N) your RefWorks list.

Highlight the additions to the document so your instructor can readily identify them.
