Assignment 1

This assignment consists of three steps that should be completed. You need to develop an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) based on the below database project proposal.

1. Identify entities; These are typically the nouns and noun-phrases in the descriptive data produced in your analysis.

2. find relationships; The easiest way to see all the possible relationships is to build a table with the entities across the columns, and down the rows. Then, fill in cells to indicate where relationships exist between the entities.

3. Draw the ERD blueprint; Draw the entities and relationships you have discovered.

Assignment 2

1. What did you accomplish this week? How has what you are learning in your current course assisted with this?

2. What did you apply and how did you apply it?

3. Were there problems encountered with job assignments or your work environment? What were your efforts towards resolution?

4. Directly connect course related content to this week’s experiences at work.

Project Proposal

Client Records Management System

The proposed database will be designed to progressively store records of drug addicts enrolled for rehabilitation at community-based rehabilitation centers. Rehabilitation centers often have a challenge keeping track of client records thus are unable to initiate effective follow-up post-rehab. As such, a client records management system will promote record keeping as well as reduce the total costs associated with monitoring the clients post-rehab.

System Users and Information Stored

Drug rehabilitation operations often involve four key stakeholders; the rehabilitation team, the drug or substance addicts, families of the addicted persons, and external sponsors. All these stakeholders require some type of information to be relayed to them about the rehabilitation operations. As such, the proposed system will effectively facilitate the sharing of information among all key stakeholders. The rehabilitation team will have a designated system administrator to monitor and control the activities in the database. The clients will have access to the system through user accounts. Similarly, the other stakeholders will also have access to the database through user accounts.

The information to be stored in the system includes the client’s personal information and addiction status, type of drugs they are addicted to, the type of rehabilitation treatment administered and the recovery status. The system will capture the rehabilitation fees paid by the families. Good database design is one that captures all relevant information and allows access to the relevant system users. As such, the sponsors will have access to the financial information stored in the system to track the expenditure and utilization of resources.
