Assessment Two Group Presentation Instructions
Analysis of a contemporary issue in health care that poses ethical issues/dilemmas assists students to develop critical thinking skills through researching and developing material that identifies legal and ethical issues from multiple perspectives using contemporary academic heath and scientific literature.
Seminar Presentation
Groups will be randomly selected and each group will be allocated a topic.
The classroom group presentations are exercises designed to allow you to strengthen your analytical, communication and oral presentation skills.
The assessment has 2 components
1. Group work power point presentation 20%
2. Individual mark for presentation & written summary 10%
A presentation of 15 minutes must be developed with equal consideration given to all of the aspects of the topic, the pros and cons. Marks will be deducted for presentations that go overtime.
Group work power point presentation
The presentation must be Power Point, engaging, informative and contemporary, using appropriate academic and industry references and research.
A copy of your group’s presentation (ppt’s) AND your individual written summary must be submitted to Turnitin. See blackboard for the due date.
At the beginning of your group’s presentation (on the day) you must give your tutor a hard copy of the Power Point presentation this must include a detailed reference list using APA 6th ed, referencing style. You will receive a mark for the quality of the presentation and the material that you have used to develop your work. You must include a reference slide in APA 6th ed. Referencing style.
Individual written assessment – maximum 500 words: the 500 words is a summary of YOUR ARGUMENT OF THE PRESENTATION TOPIC, your notes from the presentation and must include your references. This work has to meet the academic standards as per any Curtin assignments: Cover page; unit, name, topic name, student number, no contents page required. APA reference list, this is not included in the 500 words. This work is submitted through Turnitin assessment portal at the same time as your PowerPoint.
Topics: the topics will be assigned during seminar 1
1. Euthanasia is a legitimate treatment option for people with a terminal illness.
2. People should have the right to sell their organs for organ transplantation.(principle of autonomy in sell organ)
3. Nursing homes should use chemical restraints on dementia patients who are difficult to manage.
4. An alcoholic is entitled to receive a donor liver.
5. No adult has the right to refuse lifesaving treatment.
6. Patients who are violent towards hospital staff should be refused treatment.
7. Parents of disabled children should be allowed to seek sterilisation as a contraception option.
8. Obese patients should have to lose weight before being allowed to have elective surgery.
9. Nurses should be able to refuse to care for and/or work with people that hold different views and practice different cultural norms.
All group members are expected to participate in the research, development, and presentation of your work. Each group member will receive an individual mark, the marking guide and rubric is available online.
Preparation will require substantial library / web research and team work. See the marking criteria for guidance. The presentation will be given over the last two seminars, you must attend both seminars: there will be no extension for this assessment. If you do not present you are not able to pass this unit.
