Write an essay in response to ONE of the following essay options.

Option 1 . A global firm is using Environmental Management Systems (EMS) to ensure that the environmental impacts of its production sites are adequately managed, and that it maintains compliance with environmental legislation.

Drawing on relevant academic literature, write an essay discussing how this firm could use its EMS to promote other ‘beyond compliance’ initiatives to further improve its environmental, cultural, and social performance. 

Option 2 . The starting point for the integration of sustainability policies in organisations arose from the aim of social and environmental considerations into economic strategy. In addition to that, there have been calls for more business intervention on social and cultural issues. 

Drawing on relevant academic literature, write an essay discussing why there has been a shift in recent times towards a greater role for the social and cultural elements of sustainability.

2.       You are expected to identify, evaluate, and justify your position in relation to the question asked using theory and relevant examples to support your arguments.
