A Wiki is a website that allows the site visitors to add and edit content. The main characteristic of a Wiki is the ease with which a web page, called a “wiki page,” can be created and edited, often accepted without review or modification. The word "wiki" comes from Hawaiian language, meaning "quick" or "fast." Wikis are good for collaborating on projects or trying to share things online. They are not blogs, which are more structured and invite posted responses. A wiki has a far more open structure and allows others to change what one person has written. This openness may trump individual opinion with group consensus.
A good Wiki is visually engaging with graphics, statistics, active links to other webpages, and well-written and concise sections. They reflect different people's knowledge and experience, and all members of the group have the opportunity to edit the Wiki (including other’s work) from wherever they are. However, it is important to have a curator, a person in charge of the webpage. Curators help by culling irrelevant material and by guiding people to put their information in the right place.
For this assessment, groups of 4-6 are required to: Design a collaborative wiki on responsible leadership and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) found at https://www.undp.org/content/undp/en/home/sustainable-development-goals.html . For your group Wiki you need to:
1. Choose the curator for your Wiki – this person has final editing power of the design and content of the Wiki.
2. Go to UN SDGs webpage and choose a SDG. There are 17 SDGs but some will be easier to relate to responsible leadership than others will.
3. Provide an introduction to your Wiki (250 words). Make sure this is visually attention grabbing and engaging.
4. Provide a summary of your chosen SDG (in your own words). As part of this, include graphics, data, and video that highlights how your SDG is being implemented in a country of your choice (500 words)
5. Identify two responsible leadership theories from the course and apply them to your chosen SDG. Specifically, address how these theories might relate to your SDG and explain how they could support/enhance its progress (2x 500 words)
6. Discuss how Māori indigenous knowledge is related to the SDGs overall and explain how Māori approaches to leadership might contribute to the development of your chosen SDG (500 words)
7. A conclusion (250 words). This should summarise your Wiki and again be visually engaging.
If you want to see some examples of Wikis click on this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wikis
To get a good mark in your Wiki you will need to research further than the required material for this course. For example, if you chose SDG 5 (Gender Equality) or SDG 8 (Decent Work), then you might find research supportive of the notion that responsible leadership enhances working conditions and/or closes the gender pay gap. A good wiki also has great graphics and data that support written components. Again, you will have to find these.
We will be using Microsoft Office Sway to design the Wiki. This software is freely available to students as part Microsoft Office. More details about how to access and use this software will be handed out in Week 3 when you are put in groups. Because groups may include overseas students, your groups you will also be set up to interact via Blackboard collaborate in Week 3.
Further information Even though your Wiki will not be publically available, it is still important that you reference any research material, that any links are active, and that you include the copyright for any graphics. If you use any sources make sure you reference them using APA and that you include a reference list. Use the marking criteria provided, as the marker will use those criteria when your work is assessed.
Despite your best efforts, occasionally a group does not function well and some members end up doing far more work than others do. Accordingly, a “peer appraisals” system is provided (handed out in Week 3) which allows each group member to rate their colleagues’ input on a number of criteria. This rating modifies the marks different members of the group receive. |
