Energy Auditing Project (15 Marks)
The ambient conditions of Kuwait are harsh with an average DBT of (47 oC) and RH of 47%.
In an effort to provide a comfortable condition, the indoor design conditions were selected at
DBT of (23 oC) and RH of 50%. As an energy coordinator, working in an enterprise designing,
your task is to perform energy auditing for a building located in Kuwait. A sample building is
selected to be Building 2 in the ACK, however, other buildings will be accepted after being
approved by your instructor.
As a group of three to four students, your task is to implement energy auditing, including audit
visits, and to generate an audit report. Your work is based on the exercise performed in lab 4,
which should include the following:
1. Description of the facility including the facility physical description, equipment,
windows and doors.
2. Energy calculation and cost for the whole facility – based on the Kuwait current tariff
with respect to this facility type – including a description for the energy distribution
through the building. Energy distribution should include both the HVAC system and
other equipment and plug loads that you mentioned in the previous point.
Your energy calculation is performed both by hand and using eQuest software.
Then provide a comparison between your energy calculations and eQuest results.
Which of them is more accurate?
3. Suggest ECO’s for energy savings. You should provide both a description and eQuest
results for at least five different suggested ECO’s.
4. Evaluate the suggested ECO’s both technically AND economically
5. Provide energy action plan about the ECO’s based on their priority.
In your report you should follow the energy auditing processes that you covered in your course.
Please submit an electronic copy of your report (via turnitin) and present your project slides
during your assigned presentations day and time (TBD). Each member should present an
average of 5 minutes. The total grade is split into 10% for the whole team and 10% for each
individual member.
Your submitted report must include an introduction, analysis including your calculations and
all your eQuest work, and a discussion section for discussing your results.
NOTE: For the current nationwide COVID health restrictions, the first task is carried out for
you and you are only responsible for the remaining four tasks. Please find the below
details of the first task, summarize them in your own brief words to avoid being counted
as plagiarism.
