Assessment Criteria for Research Proposal

The research proposal will be assessed on a variety of criteria. These include:

 The clarity and viability of the research question – can it be answered in the dissertation

 The extent to which the problem statement is clear and valid

 The inclusion of a wide-range of relevant literature

 The extent to which the literature has been analysed within the context of the research project

 The extent of understanding of complex theories and concepts

 The extent to which the theoretical framework is suitable for the research project

 The extent to which the methodology fits the project and the level of justification provided.

 The extent to which the material is written clearly, fluently and with correct grammar and spelling

Assessment Criteria for Final Dissertation Project

The final dissertation will be assessed on a range of criteria, in addition to the criteria set out

under the research proposal above. These include:

 The extent to which an argument has been provided in response to the question

 The extent to which the argument is well supported with accurate and insightful use of evidence, from the work of academic scholars and in some cases primary research

 The quality and clarity of the analysis and evaluation of the theories and concepts.

 The correct application of the methodology

 The quality and clarity of the analysis and evaluation of the research question

 Some evidence of originality and the contribution of the work to the existing literature

 The extent to which the material included is relevant

 An understanding of the various stages in a research process.
