A Sample APA styled Paper and General Scholarly Writing Style Expectations

Given our upcoming assessments and writing assignments, coupled with your diligent efforts to convey your very powerful work experiences and linear thought within the context of scholarly writing and APA 6th ed. formatting, I am presenting this sample APA styled paper to you as a template for all of your writing assignments (case studies, article critiques, and research papers).

Please remember to use of the following scholarly writing style in all of your assessments (tests) and assignments (papers):

a. Write in third person voice (using "this writer" instead of "I" and using "one" instead of "you").

b. Use in-text citations (such as Jones (2011) described) and end-of-text citations (Jones, 2011) and not in the same sentence.

c. Reference all sources that you use while you write.

d. Use level style headings (on papers only).

e. Use technical writing, with no emotion words (such as "unfortunately") or exclamation points as punctuation.

f. Do no use direct quotes in this class.

g. Form well-structured sentences and use good punctuation; all paragraphs must be at least three sentences long.

h. Do not use of "i.e." or "etc." and do not use "/" in place of conjunctions.

i. Do not use of hyphens as punctuation (only for hyphenated words).

j. Spell out all numbers and units less than 11 (such as "ten percent" or "11 %").

k. Do not capitalize non-proper nouns or adjectives.

l. Do not pluralize with (s).

m. Do not pose direct questions to the reader (including rhetorical questions).

n. Do not attempt to cite and reference the Study Guide. Instead, cite and reference the sources that are cited and referenced in the Study Guide.
