Asking the Right Questions

The report job aid I choose was the complaint and warrant form. This form alone When writing notes sometimes you have to get information from people and they may be a bit frantic. For these quick assessments of an incident there are field interview notepads most Law Enforcement use. There are also field interview cards you can give out to witnesses or victims.

When writing an incident report, you would need to gather all pertinent information. In Law enforcement you would need to answer the following questions: who, when, what, why, and how. The question of who refers to suspect(s), victim(s), and witness(es). The question of when refers to what time the incident took place and which day it happened. The question of what refers to what happened. When explaining what happened to a judge in your report you have to use simple and plain language. If an item is a diamond you must say clear white stone. If a person is punched, you must say closed fist. The question of why can be answered in your suspect or victim’s statement or police notes. The question of how is usually in which way the incident occurred.

· Describe an organizational or note-taking strategy that would facilitate the creation of this report.

· Explain how the information in the report you have selected would be used to form the basis for a presentation to the District Attorney’s office, or for any arrest or follow up investigation.

· Use the Strayer Library to find at least two academic resources. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites are not considered quality references.
