· Learn how to identify the main argument of a piece of journalism

· Learn how to create an effective PowerPoint presentation

Knowledge: This assignment will also help you to become familiar with the following important content knowledge in the broad field of Asian studies. This includes:

· Recognizing that Asian society is a living, breathing thing

· Identifying how class concepts relate to the contemporary world

· Cultivate a deeper understanding of Asian society

Task: To complete this assignment you need to:

1. Based on your preferred topic (Asia-related), choose a recent (within the past six months) news story that relates to that topic

2. A news story is not just any information that is on the Internet. News articles are fact-checked. See page 3 for possible sources

3. Read the article carefully, looking for:

a. Author’s main argument

b. The Who, what, where, why, and why

c. How this relates to the module topic

4. Having answered the questions from 2, create a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation (approximately 5 slides) explaining the news article
