A film genre is based on ways to classify a film/movie. Some studies and are able to classify into different groups. Some directors categorize their movie genres on the emotion given to the audience or also use plots throughout the film. Directors can use multiple genres at once in one film grabbing the audience attention. There are many different genres of films used in our society. Horror, Fantasy, Drama, Science Fiction, are examples and many more of genres in film or novels creating a vast variety in people’s interest. Romance genres are mainly to entertain the audience with a love life, either it can end happily or it can end emotionally sad. At times it makes the audience feel like they have been in a similar situation or triggers a memory of the past. Romance has been a genre since the 18 centuries. There are also romance novels to bring love in a novel. In romance, there can also have drama or another genre to include. Romance has been very popular now. Although some romance films are not aged appropriate for children to watch under a certain age with a rated specification. There are also certain movies of romance genres such as historical romance, romantic suspense, and fantasy romance.
“The Notebook” is a great example of a romance film that keeps you engaged in chronological order from beginning to end. The notebook is filmed in the 1940 in South Carolina beginning with two young adults. The film “The Notebook” is a love story with a bit of drama. Throughout this film you will learn about an older man known has her husband in a facility where her husband is reading her a story which end up being their own story. In the beginning of this film the young gentleman is interested in a woman he set his eyes on and will not give up until she agrees on going on a date with him. This young man finds true love for her and goes on multiple dates, later they recognize their love for each other but the young lady's father doesn't agree on their relationship. Later down the years the woman/wife moves on and is about to marry some she had met, not knowing that the love of her life soon came back a nearby town. At that time, they meet again and they realize their love for each other was never lost. So, in the end, they live happily ever after with the love between them. In this film the husband is there for his wife despite her diagnosis with dementia.
A films plot is having each event that happens in a sequence. In this film, the story is explained in this list the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. A films story strategy is used more. A films story strategy can help take notes over the film by beginning to end. The film had a city environment genre convention. It makes the film seem realistic. This helps audience give an open mind about the genre. Another genre convention is a subplot. A subplot gives another film credit for taking a similar love story. It relates to this film because other directors have used this fil to help them make a film like this one. Another genre convention can be a theme. A theme is a message or lesson from the author. There are many different themes in this film. An example of a theme of this film is, always have trust in relationships. This genre convention helps audience refer to the movie and explain about the theme over the lesson given.
