Florida's Labor and Employment Laws

- Employers can conduct prior drug tests as a condition for employment (Roka & Guan, 2018).

- The law does not put obligations on the employer regarding drug testing (Sanchez, 2006).

US Federal laws

- An employee can own patents or copyrights.

- Trademarks or trade secrets belong to the employer (Graves, 2011).

Full-time employment statutes

- Offers a worker a permanent job

- There are no requirements regarding the amount of time they should work.

- Labor statutes demand that individuals on full-time employees receive benefits such as a pension, parental leave allowances, and statutory sick pay (Roka & Guan, 2018).

Contract employment statutes

- Employment statutes require both the employer and the worker to adhere to the signed contractual terms and conditions.

-The Florida labor and employment laws protect both parties against breach of contract (Roka & Guan, 2018).

Part-time employment statutes

-Part-time contracts do not require minimum working hours for employees (Garnero, 2016).

- Workers agree with employers on the hours for the former to attend duty.

Florida Labor Laws:

-Employees are entitled to sure leaves and time off.

-Workers should have domestic violence leave, jury leave, and witness leave (Roka & Guan, 2018).

At will contracts.

- Employer retains the right to terminate the employee.

- Employee can also quit the employment at will (El-Zahr et al., 2016).
