As a leader what approach would be most appropriate for example mentioned below. What items items you found to be compelling and enlightening?
For leaders to be influential for their followers, they must be receptive to the situation understand what is happening. The second tactic for leaders to be effective would be to know how to apply the appropriate leadership style. Objectives cannot be accomplished with leaders alone. It takes a group effort of followers and leaders working toward one common goal.
The situational leadership approach would be the best for providing balance and flexibility. I have recently transitioned from leader to follower and having the previous skills set of a leader, and I feel as if I am not receiving the support I need to accomplish goals. In a new role, learning new things, I feel it is imperative that the leaders support newcomers, guide them, and teach them the skills needed to perform the job. I have been given minimal training in my current role but still expected to know how to complete specific projects. What is lacking and needed at this point is effective communication on expectations as well as a planned training program to provide the foundation for performance and a flexible leadership approach for the others in their role that are well beyond my current learning curve. The situational leadership approach has both directive and supporting measures in its theory, and it seems both of these components are currently being missed (Northouse, 2018, secs 5.1). Additionally, leader-centric orientation should allow followers to blossom and for successful leaders and followers to be strong in their roles (Northouse, 2018, secs 12.5). At this point I feel the follower is not strong in their role, so it will be much more challenging to blossom to full potential.
