Abstract

Leadership skills are a necessity in all industries. This is due to the importance of leadership in making organizations successful. Teachers also need leadership skills to be able to transfer success into the classroom. Leadership skills will make the teachers excellent communicators who can listen to the needs f the students. As leaders, the teachers will create a vision for the classroom, which the students will follow. The application of leadership skills in the classroom is the same as applying the skills in an organization. This is because the benefit is the organization's success or the classroom where the outcomes are improved.

Application of Content

The role of teachers has significantly changed over the decades. Previously the teachers used to structure their curricula and recognized their ability to influence them (Ann & Lynn, 2005). Exercising leadership skills is one area identified in the Content Competency Development Plan which needs improvement. Leadership skills include communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolutions. All these are essential skills that would help me as a teacher in the classroom. Developing leadership skills will help improve the skills I have and need necessary to drive the students towards success.

The artifact that has been useful in helping in developing leadership skills is a book by Beatriz Pont, Deborah Nusche, and Hunter Moorman (2008). The book is titled "Improving School Leadership." the book shows how improving school leadership will improve education outcomes for the school. More aspects of leadership are covered by the book, including the importance of teacher leadership. The book has been essential in improving my leadership skills. I have used interviews as an activity of developing leadership skills. The interviews can engage leaders in various industries who offer the necessary advice that will help in building leadership skills.

As a teacher, I have to understand my weaknesses before developing strategies to improve on such areas. There are different scriptures about leadership and the importance of leadership skills. The bible shows that leaders are servants first, which is an essential aspect of leadership (King James 2017, Mathew 20:26). The scripture also quotes leaders as being tactful (King James 2017, Proverbs 29:11). The biblical references can help me fully understand the importance of leadership skills and how to apply them.
