2. Summarize the article in one complete paragraph. In the article “Living Arrangement of Older Adults and its Effect on Five-Year Survival” they talked about the differences and older adults and the relation that they’re living arrangements have. The article found that there was no significant effect of older adults in relation to their living arrangement. They found that there was a higher mortality rate for men living alone then there was for women in this study. They also found that for females there was a protective factor at hand for the elderly mortality rate.
Evaluate each article using the following criteria.
Currency – This information is very timely and current this article was published in 2022 making it less than six months old. And although we have gone through a global pandemic I found that this information was more relevant than most women talking about living situations of older adults.
Relevance – This information is very critical to the needs of Penny. I chose this article because initially I thought there was going to show a correlation between living with family or in an assisted living home that was much more positive for older adults than them living alone. But after reading through the article I found that that was not the case for the study and I think that shows the importance of leisure activity and hobbies that could help make Penny feel like less of a burden to her family if she gets involved in those things outside of the home.
Authority – The journalist published through current health science journal. And the research was conducted through the social department of health research at Bablo University of medical science. With the lead researcher Ali Bijani holding a doctorate degree I have specific research interest in health outcomes and aging.
Accuracy – The information in this article is proven to be reliable and truthful because not only did they explain much of this data but they also published the statistics on their findings. They use the sample size of 500 older adults over the age of 65. With 400 of those older adults living outside of the home and 100 of them living alone. With 72% of their sample size living with others being women. Population Information is very relevant to the case study. The target population from the study is persons over the age of 60. This is comparable to the grandmother penny because she is age 77. She is also dealing with a new transition in live because two months ago she moved in with her
daughter. The study focuses on those over the age of 60 and their living arrangements. Weather that be alone, with family, or at a assisted living facility.

2. Summarize the article in one complete paragraph.
In the article “Aging, Leisure, and Social Connectedness: How could Leisure Help Reduce Social Isolation of Older People? By Vera Toepoel they touch on the important Ness of being connected to those around you as well as participating in leisure activity to fight against social isolation. This was a time study done over a five-year period with monthly questionnaires sent out to its respondents via online. Some of the most shocking data showed us that older adults feel more connected to people compared to younger persons. But they felt more loneliness in comparison to those younger people. Showing to me that all the older people may have the strong sense of being connected to people they do need to make sure that they are incorporating hobbies and leisure to feel less lonely.
Evaluate each article using the following criteria.
Currency - The article was written in 2012 although I do believe it to still be somewhat current. There has been significant change in relation to us going through a global pandemic. And the population although still higher and the elderly it is growing increasingly. 11 years is still considered somewhat recent in terms of peer reviewed articles and the knowledge presented on this article is still very much so relevant. Relevance – I chose this article because it shows the importance of connection for all people but most importantly has good information on people over the age of 75. This is connected to the problem of Penny and making sure that she manages this transition of life well and the importance of relationship with her child.
Authority – Vera Toepoel is the author of this article. She is assistant professor in the Department of Methods and Statistics at Utrecht University. She gained her PhD in online surveys so I believe that she is very qualified to write an article where her data was collected from online surveys.
The article was published by Springer publishing house which is an award-winning publisher of healthcare and behavioral science. Accuracy – I do believe this information to be reliable and truthful, because it is a peer reviewed article we know that it has gone through rigorous editing and authentication. The methods of this data collection were through monthly questionnaires on social integration and leisure time that were administered over the course of five years. The original survey comes from LISS what was used for this study. They originally had a sample size of 8180 but was completed by 5910 respondents. I had a response rate of 72.4%. Population – The population of the study ranges from those 16 years and over noting direct differences between population groups. That came from both male and female respondents. The location of this and population is different of the population of Penny. Penny comes from America while this population was from the Netherlands. Although from different location I still believe this information to be relevant to the case study.
