article
REQUIREMENTS
As outlined in the Syllabus on Blackboard:
Article Review (80 points). Article review papers must include a brief summary of the study, explanation of the results, and your opinion of the conclusions. In addition, the paper should include relevant course material and a critique of the article’s statistics when discussing the results and conclusions. It should be between 2 to 3 pages in length. Prior to completing an article review you MUST get the article approved by Dr. Mohler.
Goal: to demonstrate knowledge of statistical concepts discussed in class and that you can apply these to research.
REQUIREMENTS Must use APA format
Should include a title and references page. You only need to reference your article. You DO NOT need to find alternative sources.
Any idea that is not your own should be cited within the body of the paper. Size 12 font, Times of New Roman font, double spaced. Given the length of your paper being short, you DO NOT need to include headers, footers, graphs, or an abstract within the
body of the paper. Rather, I just want to you get comfortable making a title page, using running heads, citing sources, and referencing your article APA style.

No Plagiarism! This will result in an automatic score of 0 for the assignment.
2-3 pages in length (NOT including your title and reference pages) If it is less than 2 pages, it will be reflected in your grade
TYPES OF ARTICLES TO CHOOSE Can be on any topic of interest!
Needs to be a peer reviewed/academic journal article. Library journal (online accessible)
Search Psychology or PsychINFO databases in UALR Library Search “Psychology” related journal articles & limit results to be peer reviewed journals
 Google Scholar
Look for a study, NOT a literature review or a news article
An appropriate article will typically have the following categories: ❖Literature review ❖Rationale for the current study/Hypotheses ❖Methods/Participants ❖Statistical Analyses ❖Results ❖Discussion
THOUGHTS TO CONSIDER: This is a time to apply and demonstrate your critical thinking skills!
DO NOT WRITE ABOUT If you agree/disagree with the outcome of the study. A long summary of the article and results (brief only)
Rather, write about: Concepts discussed in class
THINGS TO POTENTIALLY WRITE ABOUT: Who is part of the sample? Can the conclusions be generalized to the entire population? Think population
and sample. Did they use adequate sampling (e.g., random sampling vs. convenience sampling?) What are the variables they used? How do they operationally define them? What type of data was used (e.g., nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio OR continuous, discrete). Identify the IV and DV and describe how they used these in the study. Did they display the data adequately? Why or why not? What types of graphs did they use? Does the data adequately support the conclusion drawn by the researcher(s)? Measures of central tendency used within the article. Discuss concepts related to Variance. Discuss distributions and probabilities and how they were used within the article. Did they identify a hypotheses and undergo hypotheses testing? Discuss Type I and Type II Error as related to your article.
Any other concepts discussed in class that may be relevant to your article! It is okay if you cannot write about everything (e.g., statistical analyses used or all the concept outlined
above). Write about what you have learned already and what is relevant to your article.
TIMELINE 3/6/19: Last day to have Dr. Mohler Approve article Email me the article you are wanting to use and I will approve or let you know my concerns. Let me know if you need assistance. I’d be happy to assist you in locating an article before or after class. Please email me to set up a time to do this. Come with some topics of interest.
4/15/19 by 7:30pm: Article Review Paper due You will upload your paper AND the chosen article you wrote about on Blackboard. Your paper will NOT be accepted and graded without your article attached to Blackboard.
