(This unit examines the work of artists who use the human body (others or their own) as an artistic medium directly (Yoko Ono) or indirectly (Tracy Emin). By the 1960s it became apparent that traditional categories of art were no longer the defining characteristic of contemporary art. The radical movements of  minimalism and conceptualism cleared the way for artists to focus on concepts and processes rather than sculpture and painting as vehicles for art. Art could take any form.
