Module #3: Detailed Assignment Directions

1. Read Module #3 folder content materials to acclimate yourself with course topics, as well as assignment

directions & rubrics.

2. Search for your name on the “Module #3 Assignment Distribution List” to discover your topic for this project.

3. Research assigned topic using a total of 10 credible educational sources:

 Refer to Five (5) sources for topic content & Five (5) sources for visual images

 Do not refer to sites such as Wikipedia/Wikimedia, Blogs, Twitter since these are not credible educational

sources

4. Compile an MLA Style bibliography containing sources and also include the activated URL addresses. You’ll need to

submit this document with your digital poster! It can be typed on a separate document or second poster “slide”

titled “Bibliography”. Refer to the following resources:

5 Create a visually interesting & educational digital poster, featuring your assigned topic.

 Create your Digital Poster by using a Microsoft Office Program such as Word or PowerPoint

 Search online for any of the several tutorials on how to create a digital poster

 Microsoft Office:

 Click on Design Tab; Select Page Set-Up; Adjust Width & Height Settings: A Typical

Poster is 48”x 36”

 Save the assignment file on your hard (or external) drive as a working copy.

 When you’re satisfied with the final product, create a file for submission within the Mod. #3 DF.

 Include the Following Items in Your Digital Poster:

o Title (Assigned Topic), Your Name (First & Last), Class Number (Art 1301-33280)

o 6 Compositions representing assigned topic (examples that best represent assigned culture and/or

style). Include diverse types of compositions (architecture, painting, drawing, sculpture, prints, arts

& crafts…

o Compare/Contrast 2 Compositions Representing the “Style” or “Culture”: must include visual

images & text!

o Must include visual images for each of the compositions selected (not just a URL address)

 Include the Following Items in Your Digital Poster:

o Must include identification label for each chosen item (artist or culture, title, date, media,

dimensions, location

o Synthesis of research material featured in bullet-point or creative format:

 Focus on information related to the Visual Arts & apply Visual Arts

Terminology/Concepts/Ideas

 Include items such as: subject matter types, how visuals are presented (rep/non-

rep/abstract), theme categories/themes, characteristics (reoccurring visual

elements/principles of design, subject matter types, themes, purpose/function…), specific

purpose/function of item(s), unique icons & iconography, content/meaning, value to culture,

patronage (refer to previous Modules and/or previous assignments for ideas),

Characteristics of “style”…

 Do not type paragraphs or sentences: too hard to read!

o 4 Diverse Ancillary Items (examples: animation, map, timeline, chart, graphics, diagrams, video clips,

photos of artists…). Note: These are not to be included as the required 6 Compositions.

o Citations: Include your activated URL addresses on poster to cite sources; they must link directly to

chosen content and/or visuals).

o MLA Style Bibliography (can be typed on a separate document or second “slide” titled

“Bibliography”). Refer to the following resources:

6. Post your assignment (Digital Poster Final Draft & MLA Style Bibliography) at the Module #3 Discussion Forum by

suggested date/time so that students can participate with this discussion forum in a timely manner.

 Important: You must first post your assignment within the DF prior to gaining access to student posts!

 Upload in one of the following file formats: .rtf, .ppt, .pptx, .doc, .docx

 Note: Students can only earn points for the DF if they actually post their assignment & bibliography, as well

as participate with the Discussion Forum, prior to submitting final assignment within the Mod.#3

7. Perform a Peer Review & Critique within the Module #3 Discussion Forum (DF).

 Perform the following for the Module #3 DF:

 Select one Digital Poster that interests you in order to perform a Peer Review & Critique

o Important: Please select an assignment that hasn’t already been selected by another student!

o It is the responsibility of the entire class to ensure that all student posts have been Peer

Reviewed/Critiqued!

 Outline Format Required (easier for everyone to read, as well as for instructor to quickly grade)

 200 Words (less words = less points)

 Identify 5 key points, ideas, concepts featured in the assignment & what you’ve learned about the topic

 Critique a total of 5 items featured in assignment. Include the following:

o Identify what was done well (be specific)

o Identify areas in need of improvement (be specific)

o Identify suggestions for improvement (be specific)

 Research topic & add 5 items to the body of knowledge already featured in the student’s poster

material.

o Include 5 items that you feel enhance the student’s poster (Refer to Rubric)

o Explain your choices (don’t forget to include information, visual imagery, and activated urls).

o Examples: missing pertinent content, terms, definitions, visual imagery, sources, ancillaries…

o Warning: You will need to research the chosen student’s topic so that you can articulate

suggestions for enhancements/improvements!

o The goal of this Discussion Forum is to learn about a particular topic, as well as assist a peer with

improving their assignment prior to its final submission!

 Thank the student who has selected your presentation to review!

8. Submit completed Digital Poster & MLA Style Bibliography within the Module #3 Assignment drop box by scheduled

due date & time.

 Important Notice:

o Please upload a file in one of the following formats: rtf, ppt, pptx, doc, docx

o Submit your modified assignment (corrected version after reading student and/or instructor

suggestions for improvement) within the Module #3 Assignment drop box.

o Any file submitted within the Module #3 Assignment drop box is graded, therefore, be certain to

upload the accurate file(s) since late work is not accepted in this class.

o If I can’t open & read your assignment, you will not earn points!

9. Please review all of the Module #3 folder contents, particularly distribution list, assignment directions, and rubrics!
