1)THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

You must watch "The Agony and the Ecstasy" with Charlton Heston.  You can find this on Netflix or other movie services. It is an older film, but very much worth watching. This is the story of the painting of the Sistine Chapel and the relationship of Michelangelo with Pope Julius ll.  

Write an essay of 150 words to describe your reactions to this film.  What did you learn?

2) THE ODYSSEY

You must watch "The Odyssey".  You can find this on Youtube at the URL below.  It was an older short series made for television, but very much worth watching. As we discussed in class, one of the most important stories you need to know in art is the story line from "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey".  If you know the Old and New Testament from the Bible, you will have a greater understanding of the paintings and sculptures we study in class.

3)THE NAME OF THE ROSE

This is an excellent film that shows the reality of the Middle Ages.  It is also about how books were copied and preserved.  You can get the film on Netflix.  It is a murder mystery, but very well acted and very well done. Enjoy! Watch the film, and write your comments on what you think about the culture of the times.
