Homework Responses Wk 6
Good evening class,
I learned quite a bit of information when conducting research with what little time I could commit. Which leads me to the bulk of the pitfalls I found when I attempted this capstone course. Time. I am sure I will not be the only one affected by this but when I found a topic, I was passionate about, I was ready to delve into the subject with aspirations of learning but man, life gets in the way. Placing food on the table is an inherent task that always will take priority. I also had to constantly backpedal to “common core” math to ensure my daughter has learned something. That never bothered me, she is my world, but it eats away at the time I can put to myself. This isn’t a pity party though. The successes I can be proud of is the allocation of enough time to reach each weekly milestone and (eventually) pass with this degree. If you had asked me 4 years ago, I would have laughed at how close I am now to making my family proud. From topic selection all the way to correct formatting, this is a far cry from where I began.
One of the two things I learned was just how many intrusion techniques can be leveraged to syphon PII. Physical theft occurs with the physical hardware is stolen from the organization. Subversion, where modifications are mad to the network while requiring the perpetrator to be local with the network, such as logic contradictions that effect network integrity. Disclosure, where the perpetrator begins intercepting copies of network data to steal authentication data through unencrypted means. Masquerade, this is where network forgery comes into play and the perpetrator attempts to appear to the network as a legitimate user. Forgery is where an altered legitimate message fools a legitimate user into providing information unwillingly signing away rights into a system.
The other thing I learned is the gravity of attempting to publish a research project. I envy those in pursuant of the higher academia and continue to publish research, theses, or dissertations.
