Abortion Laws
I. Introductory Paragraph
o Abortion has been a controversial problem for many years.
o Women should be allowed the freedom to choose what they want to do with their bodies without legal limitations.
II. Body of your Argument
A. Background Information
o Abortion has often been a good option for women as a medical intervention to save the mother, and in cases where the pregnancy is unwanted or unplanned.
B. Reasons or Evidence to Support your Claim
1. Claim: Women deserve the chance to choose to abort since they often get pregnant due to different extraneous circumstances.
· Evidence:
o A large number of girls can get pregnant at a young age, and safe abortion is important to ensure the process is beneficial (Akaba, 2019)
o Women can get pregnant due to rape, incest, or other contexts that might require abortion.
o In the use, around 800 women die due to childbirth complications and pregnancy (Petersen et al., 2019).
o Adolescents who are at the age of 10-14 years have a higher risk of death and pregnancy complications. The complications include organ failure, hemorrhage, and other issues (Petersen et al., 2019).
2. Claim: Legalizing abortion will ensure that women’s rights are protected and that they have protection and assistance when making important decisions about their bodies.
· Evidence:
o Women over 12 weeks who seek abortion services from quacks are at a high risk of death and other complications (Hirve, 2004).
o Laws to allow abortion should be in place to protect women and empowers them to make informed health choices while considering their personal preferences and needs.
o If abortion is protected by law, it ensures that families are better prepared to handle early abortion, and medical abortion will also be done by professions.
3. Claim: Useful as a population control measure.
· Evidence:
o Unwanted pregnancies comprise 45% of all pregnancies
o 2% of women can get an unintended pregnancy once they have stopped contraception (Petersen et al., 2019).
III. Addressing the Opposite Side
A. 1st Opposing View: Supporting abortion can lead to abuse.
· Refutation: medical advice would be needed before approval.
B. 2nd Opposing View: Abortion has adverse effects.
· Refutation: Abortion is safer than quacks and illegal means (Petersen et al. 2019).
IV. Conclusion
o Women should be allowed to determine what they want to do with their bodies, especially regarding whether they should abort or not.
