· To help you stay on track with this project, it is required that you submit either a rough draft or an outline of your argumentative research essay. Here are the requirements for both: 

If you submit a rough draft -- must be 2 pages in length, double-spaced

If you submit an outline -- must be 3 pages in length, double-spaced, and be  detailed. This means that you need to have substantial writing, almost equating a rough draft. 

Don't worry if your drafts are  very rough, or your outlines don't end up matching what you write for your final essay. This is an exercise to keep you focused and on track to finish the essay in time.

As you continue to work on your argument research essay, it is important to evaluate your progress. 

Answer the following questions in the discussion board.

1. What challenges do you expect to face as you write this essay?

2. What about the project is exciting to you?

3. Do you feel like you are able to effectively pace yourself as you work on this project? Or, are you the type to wait until the last minute?

4. In what ways is this project going differently than previous research projects you have done in the past? 

Then, you must respond to two other people (100 word responses each) by the deadline. 

Argumentative Essay

Due date: April 25

This essay requires you to combine the knowledge that you have collected about research with what you have learned about argument strategy. Therefore, while this is an argumentative essay (meaning that you will have a central position on an issue and argue that position throughout the essay) it is also a research essay (meaning that you will conduct research and present your findings to support your position). You will be able to choose a more specific topic from a broader list of topics. In other words, within the broader category you have plenty of choice on how to narrow that down. Topics outside of the list below are not permitted.

Your argumentative essay must have the following:

1. Title page formatted using APA format

1. Abstract of 250 words

1. At least 5 credible sources (3 must be from an online database/scholarly journal)

1. Argumentative thesis statement that takes a position

1. Argumentative organizational structure (claim, evidence, reasoning, refutation of opposing viewpoints, conclusion)

1. APA Formatting

5. All material from sources must be cited in-text using APA format

5. References page following the essay, formatted in APA

Formatting requirements:

1. 6-9 pages

1. Times New Roman, 12-point font OR Calibri, 11-point font

1. 1” margins

1. Double-spaced, no extra spaces between paragraphs

1. APA format throughout the essay
