Concert Review Rubric(1).pdf

Concert Review You will choose a performance from the Library of Congress’s Music and Concerts playlist on YouTube–the selected video must be AT LEAST 30 minutes long. You will listen to the performance and describe your listening experience, define the program’s purpose, and begin to draw parallels between the pieces/program to cultural and historical ties. This does not need to be in a standard essay format, but must be clearly written. Brief summaries about the pieces or composers may be used, as well as bullets–avoid copying/paraphrasing any program notes provided; that is plagiarism. The concert review should aim for 500 words and will be graded based on the criteria outlined in the rubric below:

Music Appreciation Final Project.pdf

Music Appreciation Final Project Your final project is essentially your third concert review, except this time you get to pick the music. You will still be asked to Evaluate, Analyze and Examine multiple pieces of music, but the way it is organized is up to you.

You may select from one of the two options below:

OPTION A) Musical icon

Pick an influential musical subject—this could be a person (a performer, composer, writer, producer), an instrument, musical device, or artistic movement that had a significant effect on your music world. This could even be a place that has made unique contributions to music.

With your iconic figure, you will select 4 musical works that define that person/place/thing.

Write an essay describing your chosen icon, its significance to you, its broader historical/cultural relevance, and go into the detail of each of your selected works that revolve around your icon, enforcing the significance and historical/cultural relevance you already highlighted. (Icon, plus 4 pieces)

OPTION B) Album

Curate a list of songs or musical works that lead to a chosen title track, a central piece of music that encapsulates the idea of an entire album. The goal is to create a timeline of musical influences that lead to that piece.

Your album must contain at least 5 pieces of music that span at least 100 years, the largest gap between any two pieces being no more than 50 years. You may use https://musicmap.info/ as a reference; do not directly copy and paste—that is plagiarism.

You will write an essay connecting the pieces through historical/cultural context, highlighting how track 1, your title track, was influenced by track 2, number 2 by 3, 3 by 4, and finally track 4 by track 5. (Title track, plus 4 pieces)

For both options, you will provide a Youtube Playlist containing all the pieces mentioned in your essay or place direct links at the bottom of your paper. Learn how to create a playlist here: https://youtu.be/lnyZv9Vslts
