Population

Given the population of the two areas, it is clear that for the two areas, there was a general population increase.

In addition, it can be seen that the nationwide population was larger that that of the area with zip code 600614 Chicago seems irrelevant viewing from the bar-graph.

This data shows that there was an increase in population. This is expected in a productive country or area over the years.

Chicago population, although small, increased with a higher rate.

From the bar graph, the orange bars represent US and blue represents Chicago

It can thus be concluded that the population in the area and country generally increased

2

Median Household Income

In 1980, the median household income for the two areas were almost equal with Chicago’s being slightly higher

In 1990, the median income generally increased to above $40,000 in Chicago and almost $30,000 in the entire country

In the year 2000, the Chicago median income was slightly below $70,000 meaning showing that there was improvement of life.

This increase was almost twice that of the entire country which stood at slightly above $40,000

Chicago can thus be concluded to have grown in median household income as compared to the median household income of the country

3

Per Capita Income

The per capita income of Chicago is seen to be higher than that of the country

While the per capita income of Chicago grows rapidly, that of the country grows slowly over the 20 years period

In 1980, the per capita income of US was below $10,000 while that of Chicago was about $14,000.

In 1990, the per capita income grew by more than double to about $39,000 while that of the entire country slightly grew to about $14,000

By the year 2000, the per capita income of Chicago had increased by a larger margin to about $66,000 while that of the entire country was just slightly above $20,000

This is indicative that Chicago impro ved its productivity leading to a higher growth in per capita income

4

Race and Ethnicity – White

From the two graphs, there seems to be proportional increase of the white population for the US and the area of Chicago

The graphs show that between 1980 and 1990, the white population for Chicago and that of the nation grew with almost the same rate.

This was also the case for the time period between 1990 and 2000

This shows that the white population grew at a steady rate and the white population for Chicago is indicative of the national white population

This data for Chicago is thus quite important as it reflects the national population of the whites and thus can be used to study their population behavior

5

Educational Attainment

In Chicago in 2000 the percentage of the bachelor’s degrees was quit high. It was about 45% while nationally the percentage was about 16%

However, the associate degrees percentage in Chicago is very low same as diploma compared to the national rate

Grade K-9 too is very low for Chicago. Graduate degrees in Chicago have higher percentage.

Entire country has high percentages of those who are high school graduates and some college and no degrees.

It therefore seems that in Chicago, the education attainment is high in bachelor’s degree and graduate degrees while for the entire country, the percentages are high in high school graduates and those who have no degree but some college education.

6

Means of Transport to Work

The means of transport to work for the two areas are as shown

It seems that the country has the highest number of people driving to work themselves standing at over 70%.

This is also observed in the area with those driving alone to work comprising of about 39%.

In Chicago, the second best opted mode of transport to work is subway transport while for the entire nation it is carpooling

In this case, the nationwide rates and those of the region of Chicago are quite varied.
