Security is paramount in any business. The course on application security is one of the courses that I have ever enjoyed studying in my academic life. It is also one of the hot cakes many students pursue in recent years due to the high demand for well-equipped professionals in the security maintenance field. Other than imparting new concepts, knowledge, and skills, the course also helped me gain more experience on vast concepts related to common attacks and threats at the application end (Solomon, 2019) perhaps need to be incorporated into a software development cycle. In addition to that, the knowledge gained from the course is not only crucial in facilitating the application development cycle but also imperative in provides insights on how software engineers could integrate security features as the core component within a software architecture.

As a software engineer, it’s my responsibility to conduct intensive and extensive research on the best software programs such as business applications as well as computer systems that could be deployed within a business premise to facilitate better performance. From the topics such as application security technology and application development, being placed in a better position of coming up with new ideas that could be applied within a SDLC phases to recognize numerous security challenges that arise in within programs or applications. This provides the opportunity for software developers to review how the identified security issues within applications relate to each other an aspect that helps in applying the best practices to configure reliable security features to each and every application (Solomon, 2019).

Today’s business is facing a wide range of security-related issues which need to resolve expeditiously. It is the sole responsibility of software engineers along with organizations’ security policies to define better means of mitigating such threats whenever they occur. During the training about application security and its core topics, it was fascinating to learn more about secure electronic commerce together with IT fundamentals for cyber security concepts which play a critical role in as business security space (Solomon, 2019). With the amalgamation of software engineering skills and knowledge in areas such as coding and programming, information analysis, application design, and architecture as well as software testing together with skills acquired from the application security course, I will be able to identify the most common security vulnerabilities in organizational programs and by so doing, it will be easy to apply required measures to prevent potential web and application threats.

In conclusion, I must also add that the concepts I acquired throughout the learning session will also help me as a software developer to conduct a breadth assessment and evaluation of the effectiveness of security mechanisms in a business context. This will act as the basis for understanding how and why a business needs to address specific security issues impacting their businesses both internally and externally (ControlCase, 2019). Worth mentioning is that I also got the privilege to learn more deeply about various types of attacks associated with the web end. From the course material, I was evident that the most common attacks at the web and application end include cross-site scripting, input manipulation, directory traversal, parameter tampering, improper handling of errors linked to messages, denial services, and handling exception. Besides that, I also learned that SQL injection is a notorious attack that is associated with database threats. having enriched with such insights, I will be able to design programs and application software that have advanced inbuilt security configurations that could handle such threats and even generates frequent reports on the security status of the systems within which they are operated (ControlCase, 2019).
