EXPERIMENT 7: VIRTUAL MODEL- THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM (LOWER BODY)
In this experiment, you will focus on the anatomy of the lower part of the muscular system.
PROCEDURE
1. Open the virtual model website.
2. Select the Muscle option. Then select General Anatomy.
3. Click through the lower body muscles, including the muscles of the foot, hip, leg, and thigh.
Note: Zoom in on the muscles to reveal all elements. Some muscles are only visible when you zoom in. Remember that you will need to reorient the virtual model to observe all of the muscles.
4. Hover the cursor over different muscles to view the name. Click on each muscle to view a
description of it.
Hint: Review the post-lab questions as you work through the muscles.
Introduction to ScienceExperiment 7
Figure 8: Work your way through the lower body muscles to better under- stand the anatomical placement and coordination of each muscle group.
5. Click the “Layer” button to view the in-depth layer of muscles. Note that the in-depth layer can only be seen when the virtual
model is in the anterior view.
6. As you move through the model, take a screenshot or use your cell phone to take a picture of the muscles listed below.
Submit these images to your instructor along with your post-lab questions.
a. Semitendinous Muscle
b. Soleus Muscle
c. Gracilis Muscle
Hint: Be sure to hover your mouse over the muscle to reveal its label in the image.
7. Answer the post-lab questions when you have finished exploring the lower body.
