AOD 2201 WRITING ASSIGNMENT HANDOUT FOR ASSIGNMENT #2
Assignment 2 Objective: Demonstrate competence identifying, locating and retrieving primary sources
on a course relevant topic using peer-reviewed journal articles dated from 2000-Present.
Assignment 2: Identifying, Locating and Retrieving Primary Source Information (10%): The
purpose of this assignment is for students to demonstrate competence with identifying, locating and
retrieving primary sources on a course relevant topic using peer-reviewed journal articles dated from
2000-Present. Students will (1) provide hard copies of 2 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles
(primary research), (2) summarize each article; and (3) articulate how each article specifically addresses
the topic of interest. HARD COPY DUE: 1100HRS 18 OCT 2018.

ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE
The narrative summary needs to provide (1) complete citation information; (2) summarize the purpose,
methods, findings and conclusions of the study; and (3) articulate how each article addresses the topic you
outlined in Assignment#1 as described below:
1. Citation Information. The complete citation of the each article should follow APA Editorial Guidelines and list the following information: author, year, title, source, volume and page numbers.
2. Article Summary. Each article summary should succinctly describe the contents of each of the 2 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles (primary research). The summary should be written in
narrative form that does not exceed 3 single spaced typed-written pages, using 11pt Times New
Roman or Arial typeset, and it should be printed on an 8.5 X 11” paper with margins set at 1 inch.
The summary should address the following questions in narrative form: (a) What is the background
and context of the study? (b) What specifically were the purposes, prediction or hypotheses under
investigation? (c) Who were the participants? (d) What were the constructs of interests and how were
these measured? (e) What procedures were used to carry out the study? (f) What were the statistical
results of the analyses? (h) What were the major findings of the study?
3. Article Relation to Topic. The summary should articulate how each of the 2 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles (primary research) specifically address the broad topic and/or a subtopics outlined in
Assignment#1.
