Final Research Assignment

Brief

Write an essay on ONE of the following topics:

a) Discuss and analyze the social and cultural context of a specific style or item of dress used in the 20th and/or 21st Century.

b) Discuss and analyze the social and cultural context of the work of a 20th/21st Century fashion designer who uses historical references in his/her work.

Format:

Length: Your writing must be between 3800 and 4200 words, excluding bibliography.

Research: This essay must be academically written, making thorough use of peer-reviewed sources such as journals and other academic publications. All sources (written and visual) must be academically cited using either Chicago Turabian or MLA format. A full bibliography of AT LEAST 15 sources of relevant information must be provided.

Visuals: Your written research and analysis must be supported by visual material such as illustrations/ photographs/graphs etc.

The Presentation:

During Finals week, you will be expected to present your research to the rest of the class, as a 10-minute oral presentation supported by a Powerpoint slideshow. Your Powerpoint slideshow must be saved to the class dropbox before the beginning of Class 19.
