Over the summer I embarked on a 1,369 mile journey from warm and sunny California to my new home in cold and snowy South Dakota. On the way to South Dakota, I drove through Las Vegas where I stopped to eat at a buffet then stayed in Salt Lake City for 1 night and drove about 10 hours through Wyoming the next morning. Wyoming is nothing but open land If any of you were wondering. The cool thing about the majority of Wyoming is the view of wild life, no traffic and the 80 mile speed limits. Upon arriving to South Dakota with my family, we explored the majestic Black Hills. First, we went to see some of our favorite presidents up on Mount Rushmore. The drive from my house is about 40 minutes through the thick forest. The view of this art piece is amazing and something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. We rented a paddle boat and went out to Canyon Lake park and paddled for about thirty five minutes. Let me tell you, it is a work out! My wife gave up on helping me paddle so of course I had to do all the work. (Did anyone say leg day?) The cool thing about this activity was that lightning was coming down nearby and it was sprinkling. We took our daughter out to the dinosaur park. We learned about the different dinosaurs. I was amazed to learn about the dinosaurs that roamed around South Dakota. One of the newest dinosaurs that was found in this area was the Dakotaraptor. We also learned that one of everyone's favorite dinosaurs, the T-Rex was found in this area. We also visited the Black Hills Chapel, which is a Norwegian style church. We even took the opportunity to take a 6 hour trip down to Denver for a weekend.
