The nurse is most accountable to the patient, according to the second provision of the Code of Ethics (Fowler, 2015). This includes making decisions that most benefit the patients wellbeing and upholding the patients wishes. The nurse can use ethical problem solving and conflict resolution to balance these conflicting loyalties. When it comes to the family, the nurse can utilize active listening and take care of the family as well by addressing their concerns and making them feel heard. The nurse can attempt to mediate depending on the conflict. Communication is very important in balancing these loyalties.

The nurse is most accountable to the patient. Accountability in nursing has been linked to better patient outcomes (Duquesne University, 2020).The sole purpose of being a nurse requires quality and safe care for the patient that aims at improving health. Nurses are to advocate for their patients. Nurses can discuss with the family members and the physicians about the plan of care in order to find what is best for the patient. Nurses must follow the ethical standards to patient care and respect the patient's wishes.
