The ANOVA is an analysis that tests the differences between three or more groups on a given variable. In this analysis the control variable is age with 12, 14, 15, and 17 year olds as the groups and the study variables are delinquency, friend’s delinquency, family disruption, and parent concern. The results show there is a statistical significant difference between 12, 14, 15, and 17 year olds on delinquency (F=6.997; p=.000) and friend’s delinquency (t=22.865; p=.000). The findings show that 14 year olds are slightly more delinquent than all other respondents followed by 15 year olds. In addition, 17 year olds perceive their friends as slightly more delinquent than all other ages. In contrast, there is no statistical significant difference between 12, 14, 15, and 17 year olds on family disruption (F=1.402; p=242) and parent concern (F=1.483; p=.219). These findings show that 12, 14, 15, and 17 year olds are not different in their response to family disruption and parent concern. Overall, you can reject the null hypothesis for delinquency and friend’s delinquency as there is a statistical difference between 12, 14, 15, and 17 year olds on those variables. However, you can accept the null hypothesis for family disruption and parent concern, as there is not a statistical difference between 12, 14, 15, and 17 year olds on those variables.
