Creating Annotated Bibliography

Draft Version

1. Find SIX (6) SCHOLARLY sources on your topic.

a. Five Year Rule

b. Use Bierce Portal or Google Scholar

2. Look at sources to get an idea of what they say about topic (this is where Abstracts help)

3. Once you have your six scholarly sources, begin to place and format them into your Annotated Bib.

Assembling the Annotated Bibliography (Draft and Final versions)

1. List all sources in alphabetical order by author/lead author’s last name

2. Use standard APA or MLA formatting for citation

3. After citation, write Annotation - a short paragraph explaining why source is credible, (and in this case, why it is scholarly), and why it is useful in your paper.

a. Typically 2 sentences on why source is scholarly and credible, and …

b. 2 to 4 sentences on why source/information is important to paper

PLEASE NOTE: When doing the Final Version of the Annot. Bib, ALL SOURCES USED in the Final Version of the paper, scholarly and non-scholarly but credible, MUST BE ANNOTATED. The same format for citing and annotating listed above applies to ALL sources used.

In EITHER format, the information on the source’s credibility (and status as a scholarly source if applicable), can come first instead if you like. EX:
