Annotated Bibliography

One of the first steps in research is to create an annotated bibliography. Compiling an annotated bibliography requires you to go beyond collecting sources to engaging critically with those sources.

Assignment:

For this assignment, create an annotated bibliography consisting of eight sources that will provide you with context and support for your upcoming research paper. At least five of your eight entries must be scholarly. An annotated bibliography is a specific genre that, for our purposes, will include MLA 2016 style citation and a three paragraph annotation for each source.

Paragraph 1 - Analyze each source’s argument including the author’s main claim, subclaims and/or reasons, kinds of evidence, and warrants. (125-150 words)

Paragraph 2 - Assess how each source fits into the academic discussion about the issue. Assessment includes the reliability of the author and information, the source’s goal and potential limitations, the audience, the purpose, and what the publication (publisher, media, date, etc.) of the source tells you about its credibility. (100-125 words)

Paragraph 3 - Reflect on how each source will fit into your project, what you learned from the source, how sources could work in conjunction with one another in your upcoming argument, and how the sources influenced or shaped your argument. (100-125 words)
