Implementing Enterprise Risk Management (Erm) In Higher Education

This article has emphasized on the implementation of ERM in higher education. The author, a professor in Philadelphia University, indicates that the risks affecting higher education are several such as the accountability of student’s safety and welfare thus; strategies should be implemented in responding to these risks. As such, the author suggests the implementation of ERM in higher education and provides examples of countries like Australia to have implemented the system in colleges and universities. The article is essential in this research since it provides the risks involved in higher education and the need for more research on ERM through empirical studies in order to gain more understanding.

The information in the paper is relevant for this research since it offers the ways of implementation of ERM, especially in the higher education institutions. The sample case study provided, the information will assist in realizing the steps and challenges that the university went through during the implementation of ERM.

This a doctoral dissertation that covered the ERM at higher education and the author emphasized on the management concepts that can be drawn from implementing ERM. To test the thesis, the author has drawn conclusions from theoretical literature and findings in order to understand the implementation and effects on Enterprise Risk Management. This is the main reason the dissertation is essential in the research as it provides more information theoretically on influences, barriers and challenges, and analysis on the implementation of ERM in higher education.

After reading through the article, I have gained insights on risk management, the objectives, and the control also the implementation of ERM programs. The article has also expounded more on the various factors of ERM programs and the components or ways of getting started when dealing with ERM. The author has provided essential details on risk management so the information will be helping in a better understanding of implementing ERM in higher education.

The implementation of ERM has been successful in several sectors like the central government of Ireland, higher education institutions, and the healthcare sector. The author of this article has shown how the implementation of ERM has become a priority in public and private sectors but in the same time, the author highlights some of the challenges organizations face during the implementation process. The article and the information presented by the author should be important in this research since it provides a sample of Ireland public sector as an example in the implementation of ERM.

In addition, the article has highlighted the challenges faced and the benefits that the higher education institutions got from implementing ERM. The article is essential in the research since it provides the best approach in identifying, monitoring and managing ERM, also the article recommends on the area of more research on the reasons of slow diffusion of ERM in institutions.

The author uses the insurance industry but the information is also relevant in the study of ERM in higher education. That is why the article is essential since it provides another point of view using a different industry thus providing more statistical evidence and the significance of ERM.
