In this article, Lashay Welsy in KATU News reports a case where a TriMet Fare Inspector and a transit police officer stopped and arrested Rosa for failing to produce proof that she had paid her bus fare. Rosa also was found not to have is National identity card. The judge ruled this to be unconstitutional as it denies Rosa Giovanna freedom “unreasonable search and seizure”. The judge in Oregon Supreme Court makes a verdict that the arrest of Rosa as infringement of one’s rights of movement and deems it unconstitutional. This leads to TriMet board coming up with new ways of punishing fare evaders and also transport district making changes on the methods of fare enforcing.

In this article, Elisa Herizon argues that police officers do not provide the required security especially to people of colour and people with mental illness. He adds that police officers are a danger. In this article also he describes several incidents that have occurred on Max Buses and proposes that number of security officers on transit should be increased. Elisa Herizon describes the numerous negative encounters that Anal Del Rocio has undergone leading to bad experiences. According to Anal Del, the number of police should be replaced with transit ambassadors to offer maximum security.

This article addresses a disease in the number of people using the TriMet buses as a result of increased levels of insecurity. A 0.9 % decline in the number of ridership has been projected. The board directors of TriMet has also proved that there have been a decline in ridership. In response to the increased killings transit police have been increased in TriMet buses to increase security.

In the article, The Double Slaying on the MAX Intensifies Debate Over TriMet’s Plans to Increase Transit Police, Del Rocio describes the terrible experiences she has ever had using Max train. The people at danger with the transit police are the blacks who are frightened with their presence.

According to Eliot Njus, to remedy the ever increasing rate of insecurity in Max Train, there is need for hiring Portland Patrol Inc. to increase security in trains and buses. This article provides that these officers will not carry arms but will only issue warnings, citations and fare evasion. They are a friendly group of transit officers who will assure the citizens on board of security. Portland Patrol will work closely with fare supervisors and field inspectors to bring in customers confidence in security provided in buses and trains.

According to this article, Christopher MacKechnie tries to tell us that public transportation is much safer than driving a personal car. The author argues that to reduce traffic fatalities, there is need for an improvement in public transport systems not unless traffic fatalities rise. He adds that media coverage have changed people’s perception that public transportation is not safe and hence people have changed to unsafe means of transportation.

Kandra Kent in this article praises TriMet for being on the lead in terms of reliability and overall approval. However, he adds that there is an impeding need for increased security. Safety and security is still a major concern. Harassment and being disrupted by other passengers on board is still an issue not addressed in good time by the management and security officers. System and operations improvements have been made and users are happy.
