Baker, L. R., McNulty, J. K., & VanderDrift, L. E. (2017). Expectations for future relationship
satisfaction: Unique sources and critical implications for commitment. Journal Of
Experimental Psychology: General, 146(5), 700-721. doi:10.1037/xge0000299
There were six studies conducted to evaluate the different reasons couples end their relationships. The main issues were centered on current and future satisfactions that includes individual differences, life events and improvement of the relationship. Also, the commitment level of the relationship was based on the expected satisfaction from each of the indicators. This article identifies an important part of the foundation to a successful relationship. Everyone should acknowledge their expectations to ensure they are compatible, which leads to longevity in a relationship. The potential ethical concerns would be the validity of the research studies conducted. The variation of the participants, relatability, location and qualification of the person conducting the research can affect the outcome.
Jin, S. V., & Martin, C. (2015). "A Match Made...Online?" The Effects of User-
Generated Online Dater Profile Types (Free-Spirited Versus Uptight) on Other Users' Perception of Trustworthiness, Interpersonal Attraction, and Personality. Cyberpsychology, Behavior And Social Networking, 18(6), 320-327. doi:10.1089/cyber.2014.0564
The online dater’s profile type was tested in a study on interpersonal attraction, trustworthiness and the Big Five Personality (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism). The research consisted of two completely opposite groups (traditional/uptight dater profile and open/free-spirited dater profile). This study provided information on perception and self presentation in the online dating setting. Many times, an online dater’s profile can interfere with them meeting a suitable partner. Helping individuals to create a profile that exemplifies their best qualities and communicate their expectations can increases their success rate. This article was intended to assist online daters, managers of online dating sites and theorists further their understanding. The potential ethical concerns is ensuring the best interest of their clients are put first and isn’t just for monetary gain. Most of these online dating websites have a monthly fee and it increases when they assist someone with their profile.
Chow, C. M., Buhrmester, D., & Tan, C. C. (2014). Interpersonal coping styles and couple
relationship quality: Similarity versus complementarity hypotheses. European Journal Of
Social Psychology, (2), 175.
This article examines how interpersonal coping styles may enhance a couple’s relationship quality. A hypothesis was formed using the comparison on how similar versus complementary styles of interpersonal coping can be useful in a relationship. Furthermore, three interpersonal coping styles were identified bases on attachment theory and self-determination theory which were: adaptive, anxious/expressive and dismissive. Identifying the different coping styles and be used to compare the similarities of two individuals seeking to be in a relationship. People tend to focus on the surface aspect of a potential mate, instead of the core. In the beginning phases of the relationship, they are getting the know one other and are unaware of their interpersonal coping styles. The only ethical concern is being completely certain with the results of the hypotheses.
Madey, S. F., & Rodgers, L. (2009). The Effect of Attachment and Sternberg's Triangular
Theory of Love on Relationship Satisfaction. Individual Differences Research, 7(2), 76-84.
The Relationship Scales Questionnaire and Sternberg’s Triangular Theory of Love Scale was conducted fifty-five romantically involved couples. The association between attachment and intimacy, passion, and commitment proposed in Sternberg’s Triangular Theory of Love on relationship satisfaction was investigated. According to Sternberg, all three components are needed for a perfect relationship, but the largest predictors of who will be in a relationship are familiarity, similarity and proximity. When two people share similar values, and interests they are more likely to enter into a relationship with that person. This article identified multiple questions that could be added to an online dating site questionnaire, to maximize their chances of meeting an ideal match. The ethical concern would be verifying that a trained person administered the questionnaire.

A consumer’s report was conducted on the success rate for online dating sites. According to research, serious long term relationship and marriages were formed by 44 percent of the online daters. However, other research studies showed the lowest satisfaction scores for online dating sites. The issues discussed were people being misleading about their age and criminal backgrounds. This article brings awareness to people who use online dating as a method to meet a possible match. There are people that use OKCupid, eHarmony and Tinder as a one nightstand. But, there are people that are looking for love. This will give a client the opportunity to weigh their pros and cons of the matchmaking websites. The ethical concern would be to prevent the client from harm and being misled.
Konrad, K. (2015). Affection, speed dating and heartbreaking. Journal Of Population Economics,
28(1), 159-172. doi:10.1007/s00148-013-0489-1
This article compares speed daters to online dating. Since the time is minimized, the choice is solely based on physical attraction. Speed daters tend to reject good matches based on the lack of chemistry in short period of time. The research conducted can contribute toward the decision on choosing to use speed dating as a part of the online dating website. It will give the matchmaker an opportunity to observer the type of person that he/she is usually attracted too. But, speed daters can be viewed as bad news for an unmarried person. The ethical concerns would be validating the research conducted.
Finkel, E. J., Eastwick, P. W., Karney, B. R., Reis, H. T., & Sprecher, S. (2012). Online Dating:
A Critical Analysis From the Perspective of Psychological Science. Psychological Science In The Public Interest: A Journal Of The American Psychological Society, 13(1), 3-66. doi:10.1177/1529100612436522
Three major services online dating sites offer are access, communication, and matching. Access gives them an opportunity to encounter someone you would not normally meet. Communicating allows individuals various computer methods to interact with potential partners before meeting them face to face. Finally, matching refers to a formula used to select potential partners for users. This article compares the difference between offline dating and online dating. It gives the top reasons online dating is more successful at couples meeting versus the traditional way. Beneficial information was provided to assist with the choice of choosing the type of business that would be more successful. The ethical concern is ensuring the information is accurate and providing more research studies.
