This article examines the role definition of social work in health settings from several points of view. The author here focuses on the process of discharge planning and its importance in the hospital setting. The author remarks that when a thorough psychosocial assessment is done the data can be used in helping the health care team deal with the patient. A care plan can then be developed for the patient that provides for concrete and psychic needs. There should be more about the politics between social workers and medical staff (doctors and nurses).

This is an article of a study. It describes how social workers form positive relationships with patients. This explains the genuine concern that a social worker has for the patient. The patient is not looked at as just a client – but a human being. Patients felt comfortable discussing with the social worker concerns or issues that they were experiencing. This interaction was very important to the patient. What lacked in this article was the difficulties with interacting with non-compliant patients.
