Annotated Bibliography

Your annotated bibliography assignment works hand-in-hand with your final paper. In other words, you will have to decide what you are going to write about for your final paper. Once you have made your decision, then you can start gathering information for the annotated bibliography. These are the choices for your final paper.

1. You can choose 1 – 3 themes that we have discussed this semester and write about how it plays a role in the story or stories. For example, the theme of ‘alienation’ plays a role in all of the stories we have read this semester. If you choose this theme, then for your annotated bibliography, you will find 3-4 sources on alienation. The source does not have to match the story; however, the source must back-up or support what your are saying/writing about. Do not limit yourself to JSTOR; you can look at the other databases as well.

2. The other choice is the urban legend topic. If you choose this topic, then I have to approve your choice before you can start writing your paper. I will discuss urban legends in class so you will have a good idea as to what I am looking for. If you choose the urban legends assignment, then you will have to find at least 3-4 sources about the urban legend you have chosen.

After you have made your decision, then start looking for the sources. If you chose the urban legend assignment, then 1 and only 1 of your sources can be a personal interview. I will show you how to cite this at a later date.

For the actual annotated bibliography, you will have at least 3-4 sources. The more sources the better, because you can use the same sources for your annotated bibliography. In fact, I expect and want you to use the same sources. There is no need to look up more sources when you already have them in front of you.

Annotated Bibliography instructions:

1. Standard MLA format: Times New Roman, double spaced, size 12 font.

2. You will have a hanging indentation. No exceptions.

3. Each paragraph will have a minimum of 5 complete sentences. No exceptions.

4. The first paragraph is about the article/source you have cited/annotated.

5. The second paragraph is what YOU think about the article/source

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5.
