Barry, S. (2019). Trends In Public Opinion On US Gun Laws: Majorities Of Gun Owners And Non-Gun Owners Support A Range Of Measures. Health Affairs (Project Hope)38(10), 1727–1734.

Barry (2019) investigated the trends in public opinion on Gun Laws in the US. With the increased gun violence in the US, gun laws have also increased. The US residents, both gun owners, and non-gun owners support most of the regulations as they promote the safe use of guns. Some of the regulations indicate that the people buying guns should be assessed as well as the sellers. That ensures that untrained and unskilled people do not have access to guns thus reducing gun violence in the US. The article is essential to the study as it indicates that gun laws have reduced the level of gun violence in the US.

Campion, M. (2017). After the Mass Shooting in Las Vegas — Finding Common Ground on Gun Control. The New England Journal of Medicine377(17), 1679–1680.

In his article, After the Mass Shooting in Las Vegas - Finding Common Ground on Gun Control, Campion explains the danger that guns have exposed the US residents to. Many untrained and unskilled people in the US access guns, especially automatic and semi-automatic guns, thus increasing the rate of gun violence. For instance, the article shows a scenario in Las Vegas, whereby a man killed over 58 people and wounded 500 more. That is one of the biggest mass shootings that have occurred in the US. The article recommends that common ground to come up with laws and regulations that will help in gun control should be found. That will reduce gun violence in the US. The article is relevant to the research as it stipulates some of the measures that can be used to reduce gun violence in the US.

Kamerow, D. (2016). A modest proposal on gun control—and a real one. BMJ352, i69–i69.

Kamerow (2016), in his article, discusses the increase in gun violence in the US. According to the author of the article, gun violence has increased significantly in the US. The article stipulates that in 2015 alone, more than 3000 children, under the age of 18 years, were killed through gun violence. Therefore, the article proposes that gun control laws and policies should be put in place to promote the safety of guns. The article indicates that guns cost more lives than they protect. The information put across by the article is significant to the study as it stipulates the measures that should be taken to ensure that gun violence is reduced in the US.

Lott, J. R. (2013). More guns, less crime: Understanding crime and gun control laws. University of Chicago Press.

According to the article, American culture is a gun culture. That indicates that most households have firearms. The article stipulates that the use of guns in the US has resulted in less crime. However, that has been attributed to licensed, skilled, and trained gun owners. Such holders of firearms use their firearms whenever necessary thus preventing a lot of crimes from happening. However, the article acknowledges that when gun owners are unskilled and untrained, they may not contribute to fewer crimes. In fact, in such a case, such gun owners contribute to more crime. The article is relevant to the research as it indicates how holding guns in the US has resulted in reduced criminal activities.

Wolfson, T. (2016). The US Public’s Preference for Safer Guns. American Journal of Public Health (1971)106(3), 411–413.

Wolfson (2016) in his article, The US Public’s Preference for Safer Guns, exploits gun ownership in the US. The article indicates that in 2013, the production of guns in the US had increased from 1.1 million handguns in the previous decade to five million handguns in that year alone. That shows that more people are gun holders in the US, the primary reason that most people buy guns in the US is to protect themselves. That indicates that the public prefers holding guns for security purposes. Additionally, only a small proportion of gun owners misuse their firearms. That indicates that holding firearms has an advantage. The article may be used in the research as it shows the positive side of the US residents holding firearms.
