Annotated Bibliography

Once you have formatted the heading and title in MLA format, this assignment will begin with a 2-3 paragraph research proposal. The proposal should include the following:

1. A description of the topic/problem you have been writing about and researching this semester. You should be able to add more detail by now because of the research you have done. Give plenty of context as if you are writing to an audience that is learning about your topic for the first time.

2. An explanation of the causes, effects, and consequences of this problem and who is affected by it. Examples of questions to address: Where/when did this issue begin? Why is it happening? Who is affected by it? Who should take action?

3. A proposal for what you intend to argue about your topic in your final paper. Feel free to use phrases like "I will argue that..." or "I intend to explain how..." Usually such a proposal offers a solution or a new way of thinking about the problem. Present a working thesis statement, if possible. Examples of questions to consider: Who will be your audience, and what goals will you hope to accomplish with your argument?

On a new page following your research proposal, you will begin your properly formatted Annotated Bibliography. You will be creating citation entries and providing annotations for a total of 5 sources, and you will need to pay close attention to correct MLA formatting. The Annotated Bibliography will include the following:

· Citation entries and annotations for the best 3 sources that you have used in previous assignments - the Rhetorical Analysis or the I-Search. These sources should all be relevant, quality, credible sources that you feel reasonably confident you will use in your final paper.

· Citation entries and annotations for 2 NEW quality sources. One new source should be a primary source.

· Annotations for each source should be three brief paragraphs: 1) a summary of the source's main argument, 2) an analysis of the source or an evaluation of its quality, and 3) an explanation of how you intend to use the source to support the argument you proposed in the first part of this assignment. Specific quotes should be used in your annotations to demonstrate the passages in the source you deem particularly valuable. Annotations for each source should not exceed 200 words.

Here are some helpful hints:

· Write your proposal paragraphs

· Create a correctly formatted Works Cited page for your five sources

· Below each Works Cited entry, write your 3-paragraph annotation

· Revise to meet all MLA formatting guidelines

· No minimum word count.
